6 Diet Tips to Defeat Diabetes

stevendepoloThere are different factors that determine whether you are vulnerable to developing diabetes or not. Factors like ethnicity, heredity and age are beyond your control. However, there are other factors like diet, exercise and lifestyle which are under your control. Among these, your diet can have a great impact on your health. Here are some guidelines on the kind of diet you should follow to avoid diabetes.

Eat foods that are rich in leucine

Leucine is an amino acid that reduces the blood sugar level within 48 hours by allowing muscles cells to absorb and utilize the extra blood sugar quickly. You can avoid diabetes by consuming cottage cheese regularly since it contains high percentage of leucine.

Eat foods rich in virgin coconut oil

Including coconut oil in your diet can help you avoid diabetes. Studies show that people from Pacific Island, who consumed coconut oil regularly, did not develop diabetes like others. Virgin coconut oil also helps in stabilizing your blood sugar levels. Even regular coconut oil is believed to contain certain beneficial ingredients which reduce the chances of developing diabetes.

Use some spices in every meal

Spices like turmeric, cilantro, cinnamon, cayenne and ginger are believed to help your liver in easy conversion of glucose into energy, within 3 hours. Studies have also revealed that cinnamon is effective in maintaining blood sugar levels. Cinnamon sticks, which are more effective when compared to cinnamon oils, can also be used. You can also use cilantro in your salads and pestos to prevent diabetes.

Eat foods rich in vitamin D

Eat food that is rich in vitamin D as part of your daily diet. Salmons and fatty fishes are rich sources of vitamin D. You can even use vitamin D supplements like D3 capsules or cod liver oil to prevent diabetes. These days, even infants are given vitamin D supplements to reduce the chances of diabetes in the future.

Include holy basil

Holy basil is different from the regular basil. It reduces your high blood glucose count by 25 percent, helping the adrenals to control your blood sugar level. Holy basil can be consumed as a vegetable or in the form of capsules.

Include cherries in your desserts and snacks

Cherries contain a natural chemical called anthocyanins which helps in maintaining blood sugar level for people with diabetes. It prevents people from developing diabetes as well. You can get hold of frozen cherries and eat them as snacks or desserts. Other fruits are also found to have anthocyanins, but cherries have the highest levels of this chemical.
